Abstract

Macnish's article starts by defining what is a 'ship's agent', proceeding to consider the types of liability that a ship's agent may be exposed to, both under statute and at common law in the Australian states and territories. Macnish also considers the effects of the Navigation Act 1912 (Cth) and other Commonwealth statute, and concludes that ship's agents should, generally, seek the broadest P&I cover possible to avoid catastrophic liabilities.
