Abstract

In the 1985 FSD Memorial Address, F.M.B. Reynolds discusses the use of actions in tort in claims concerning the carriage of goods by sea, given that carriers may be liable in tort as well as contract. In particular, the address considers why actions in tort are brought in connection with the carriage of goods by sea, and whether the law of contract can and should be adjusted to avoid the necessity for some of those actions.
