Abstract

As Nicholson states, there are a broad range of issues which fall under the banner of 'current developments in the law of the sea', including: the practice of states in implementing their national policies on maritime issues, and developments in international and regional forums where the formulation of co-operative policies for the management, exploitation and conservation of the oceans is of high priority.

In this paper, Nicholson restricts his discussion to taking a long view and survey of developments in relation to the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), focusing on its current status in the light of state practice, and its early development.
