Abstract

Kneebone's article explores the topic of trade practices legislation, the policy of creating some form of exclusion for international shipping from trade practices breaches, and the reasonably common phenomenon for countries to have some kind of legislation to provide a framework for the orderly control of shipping services. Kneebone also looks at the history of shipping regulation (as with anti-competitive conduct) in Australia over the twentieth-century, especially after the Trade Practices Act 1974 (Cth) was introduced (and subsequent attempts made to amend it).
