Abstract

This paper includes a range of documents pertaining to the America's Cup from the last century, leading up to the 1987 Challenge to a match for the Cup, issued from the Mercury Bay Boating Club Inc to the San Diego Yacht Club, arising from the 1887 Deed of Gift. The Mercury Bay Boating Club's challenge was upheld as valid, including its specifications about the length of the boats to be used. San Diego Yacht Club was required to meet the challenge and defend the America's Cup.
