Abstract

In short, the purpose of this paper is to raise for discussion the question of whether the law of marine insurance is in need of review. Although the marine insurance regime of the United Kingdom is a primary source of influence, Thompson notes that other regimes do have an effect on the global marine insurance market, and the case for reform should be approached from an international point of view. In terms of Australian marine insurance law, Thompson flags certain sections of the Marine Insurance Act 1909 (Cth) which warrant reform.
