Abstract

Myburgh examines the issue of harmonisation of New Zealand and Australian maritime laws from a general perspective, examining the meaning of 'harmonisation' and exploring some of the ambiguities and tensions apparent in the concept and its use. Moreover, the author discusses the current state of New Zealand and Australian maritime laws, identifying those factors which have led to a relatively high level of harmonisation between the two jurisdictions' maritime laws, and examines some areas of divergence, as well making some predictions about potential future harmonisation of New Zealand and Australian maritime laws.
