Abstract

Mason contrasts the harmonisation of maritime rules with the concept of maritime law uniformity, and refers to the significant departures made by Australian and New Zealand legislation from the Hague and Hague-Visby Rules. Further, the author considers what problems may be created by those departures, the impact of international law generally on Australian municipal law, and the approach which has been taken by the courts to the incorporation of international law, especially the provisions of international conventions, into municipal law.
