Abstract
Davies presents this paper as part of Business Session 6, on the topic of Specific Issues in Law Reform. Davies considers modern developments in the areas of both salvage and wreck, looking particularly at the impacts of the 1989 Salvage Convention (as came into force in 1996), the concept of special compensation for preventing or minimising environmental damage as embedded in art 14, SCOPIC clauses, and the emergence of (and debate around) a draft Underwater Cultural Heritage Convention. Davies also considers several controversies around the draft UCH Convention.
