Abstract

This paper was presented as part of Business Session 7, titled 'Regulating Against Marine Pollution Post Erika', which was chaired by Timothy Elsworth. The first page of the paper contains a short biography of the author.

The author explains how the Review of Ship Safety and Pollution Prevention Measures in the Great Barrier Reef was undertaken by a Steering Committee comprising senior officials of various bodies, including the Australian Maritime Safety Authority. A discussion paper which canvassed major issues involved in the review was released in January 2001 and circulated to shareholders. Consultative forums were held in various cities, and the Final Report of the Steering Committee was presented to the Minister in July 2001.

Davidson attaches the Executive Summary and the Terms of Reference for the Report.
