Abstract

This paper was presented as part of Business Session 2, on the topic of 'The New Generation of Shipping Operations', which was chaired by Frank Turner. The first page of the paper contains a short biography of the author.

Windfield looks at container ships and other technical developments (predicted developments and whether these will be seen in Australia anytime soon), service patterns, structure, and alliances, and the economic climate and what this might mean in Australia, as well as the potential for future consolidation in the industry. Further, Windfield discusses some developments in the industry which have been taking place everyday, but which affect the way the industry interacts with its customers and suppliers, and which will have a huge impact on how and where support functions are performed which employ the vast majority of carrier personnel.

This paper includes Windfield's accompanying slides.
