Abstract

This paper was presented as part of Business Session 4, on the topic of 'Issues From the Tampa Case', which was chaired by Sandy Galbraith. The second page of the paper contains a short biography of the author.

This paper contains the slides for Feeney’s presentation on ‘Protocol for Commercial Shipping Rescuing Persons at Sea In or Adjacent to the Australian Search and Rescue Region’. As noted in Feeney’s slides, the Tampa incident raised a number of issues, with industry subsequently writing to the Prime Minister to seek greater certainty for liner shipping regarding those issues. This Protocol represents the Government’s response to those concerns.
