Abstract

In this address, Bonner looks at the years 1911-1912 in maritime law. It was during these years that the Titanic sank, and subsequent investigations and conventions led to some semblance of international uniformity and, eventually, the establishment of the IMO. In Australia, the Navigation Act, Lighthouse Act, and Seamen's Compensation Act were all enacted, and several important maritime developments also took place in New Zealand.
