Abstract

This paper was presented as part of Business Session 3, on the topic of 'International maritime legal developments of interest', which was chaired by Neil Beadle.

In this paper, Howse covers recent developments in Singapore and Hong Kong as these are the jurisdictions in which Australian and New Zealand lawyers are most likely to have disputes. Both jurisdictions also have legal and arbitration systems familiar to Australians and New Zealanders, being based on the English legal system. As part of this discussion, Howse considers key cases from these jurisdictions which arose in the past year.
