Abstract

This paper was presented as part of Business Session 2, on the topic of 'Marine Insurance fraud: what is it good for?... absolutely nothing!', which was chaired by Geoff Brodie.

This paper contains the accompanying speech to Flynn's slides about marine insurance fraud. Flynn focuses on looking at claims made, and in particular the circumstances which may give rise to a suspicion that a claim is fraudulent. Flynn suggets two elements of utmost importance in considering investigation steps: the owner's motive, and the circumstances of the loss.
