Abstract

MacKenzie describes the topic chosen for this address as a particularly topical one, at least in New Zealand. In this paper, MacKenzie discusses the development of the concept of limitation by examining its history, and the policy considerations which underlie it. His Honour then proceeds to describe the limitation of liability regimes in place on a global basis, and finally ventures some thoughts on the current relevance of the concept in the modern age.
