Abstract

This paper contains the slides for van Wijngaarden's presentation about improvements in technology used for reporting catches of the commercial fishing industry in New Zealand waters. Van Wijngaarden describes the various recent regulations governing electronic catch reporting requirements and how these have changed. The author also raises potential issues which could arise from this for maritime lawyers, including privacy, the volume of footage collected, ownership of footage/cost (who is looking at and storing the footage and how they are reviewing it all), technological barriers to taking accurate footage, and evidential issues.
