Abstract

This paper contains the slides for Pointon's presentation, which provides an operational overview of the expanding marine transportation of LNG. Pointon defines and describes LNG, explains the reasons for producing it and when it is economically and practically viable to ship it rather than transport it via pipeline, and gives a brief timeline of LNG history. Pointon also discusses the LNG 'value chain' of production, transport, and distribution, and what is different about shipping LNG, including the LNG market, control of shipping, LNG containment, custody cargo transfer, propulsion options where LNG cargoes are used for ship fuel, loading and discharge operations, the LNG ship voyage, LNG shipping containment systems, and LNG charter rates.

Readers should note that this copy of Pointon's presentation is incomplete.
