Abstract
Lopez discusses and develops some of the issues surrounding the law of carriage of goods by sea and the new UNCITRAL draft convention on transport law, asks if the UNCITRAL draft convention is needed, and suggests going on a different voyage to uniformity, in the due course of time. Lopez considers uniformity of the law and freedom of contract, provides a description of the historical development of 'uniform' maritime law and conventions, and asks, why do we need uniformity and how do we get there?
