Abstract

In this paper, Justice Williams discusses the New Zealand Admiralty Rules and changes to them since 1998, ship arrest practice in New Zealand, proposals for admiralty reform in New Zealand, anti-suit injunctions, the specialisation of Federal Court judges in admiralty law, proposed changes to the Federal Court rules in the admiralty area, and judicial education in New Zealand.

His Honour also provides, as an appendix, a description of which aspects of the New Zealand Admiralty Rules are not reflected in the Australian Admiralty Rules.

This paper acts as a companion piece to Justice Brian Tamberlin's paper 'Maritime Law Procedures and Federal Court Initiatives'.
