Résumé
Mansell presents this paper as part of Business Session 7 on the topic of Maritime Safety, chaired by Anthe Philippides. In it, Mansell looks at the background of roll-on/roll-off ships, the problems involved, and the way in which the International Maritime Organisation has endeavoured to tackle them. Mansell covers the various amendments made to the SOLAS Convention in the 1990s, and refers to recent examples of disasters involving ro-ro vessels.
